Counsel for former Applied Biosystems Group in-house patent counsel/inventor accused of theft of DNA sequencing invention, and improper assignment of invention to competitor asserting the patent against Applied Biosystems Group. Judgment for inventor. Appeal pending.

SAES Getters S.p.A. v. Innovative Micro Technology, Inc.:
Enforcement of patent for device used in manufacture of micromachines. Confidential settlement.

In the Matter of: CERTAIN POWER AMPLIFIER CHIPS etc:
Co-counsel to Microtune on obviousness and anticipation defenses of Microtune in USITC trail proceedings brought by Broadcom for alleged infringement of patents for electrostatic discharge protection in integrated circuits. ITC judge ruled Broadcom patents invalid for anticipation and obviousness.

Dieter v. Regents of the University of California (Laidlaw Environmental Services):
Represented Laidlaw in action by former UC graduate student and employee of Laidlaw subsidiary regarding ownership of and inventorship of UC patents and ownership of similar Laidlaw patent for use of steam injection to remediate subsurface soil contamination. UC cross- claimed against Laidlaw for interference, misappropriation and fraud in inducement of cross- license agreement based on alleged derivation from UC professors. Action settled with cross- license on near identical terms of original cross-license. Action also resulted in published opinion on question of whether UC trial counsel who was partner of attorney prosecuting Laidlaw patent at the time of prosecution could be disqualified when UC had argued fraud on patent office by prosecuting attorney during the time of their partnership.

RLT Acquisition (Arcade Planet) v. Innovative Concepts in Entertainment:
Litigation counsel to patent holder, Arcade Planet, in action for infringement of patents involving progressive bonus and related features of arcade games. Action resulted in judgment affirming validity of Arcade Planet patents and license by alleged infringer.

Cal-West Specialty Coatings v. Aqua Tec:
Represented patent holder, Cal West Specialty Coatings in action for infringement of patents for protective spray masking liquid used in automobile painting operations. Action resulted in favorable acquisition of alleged infringer by Cal West Specialty Coatings.
